Praying Mantises Hatch!

Tuesday, April 27 was a very exciting day in our house, as we noticed that the praying mantis egg sac that had been sitting in a little plastic habitat cube doing absolutely nothing for the past six weeks actually HATCHED. We’ve got about 200 tiny praying mantises who have so far refused to show any interest in the fruit flies or water that we have offered them. Pretty cool, though.

Red Pepper Sunbather

Don't play with your food!

I got the idea to make this Red Pepper Sunbather when I was eating red pepper. My grandmother, Rosemary, had shown me some pictures of cool things made out of food that her friend sent her. I asked my mom for a piece of bread and a knife, and then cut out a person. Then, I cut some red pepper into the proper shapes. Now that I think about it, the reason that I left out the eyes could be that the person’s eyes were closed. After all that, I asked my mom for two graham crackers to serve as a towel. That day, the Red Pepper Sunbather sure had time to get a tan!!!

Mark’s b-day

Yesterday  our friend Mark came over because it was his birthday.  We  had a lot of fun! There was only one other kid. There were a lot of adults, though.

K’nex Wheelchair

Earlier this winter, Claire and Luke worked very hard to design and build this wheelchair — entirely out of K’nex! They didn’t follow any instructions; we just looked at a couple of pictures of wheelchairs on the internet in order to come up with their own design.

Cardboard Fort!

Oliva came over this afternoon because there was a half day at school. Claire and Olivia wanted to build a fort and Luke fetched some cardboard out of the garage. Here’s what it looked like:

We went to the Zoo!

On Thursday, April 9, Luke, Claire and Jason took a trip to the Trevor Zoo in Millbrook, NY. We took these great photos:

Luke thought it would be fun to stand on this stump while Claire took his picture.

Claire went through the woods and found this branch to sit on, with her feet up in the air!
